8th October, 2011 Beachy Head Overcast cool, NW 3

We visited the Head and met up with JK, RJF & RDME at Birling. We were able to cover the majority of the sites. Very good diurnal migration during the morning, probably the best I have seen for several years:

Little Egret 2-3
Sparrowhawk 1
Kestrel 2
Peregrine 1
Golden Plover 1
Greater Black Back Gull 200 (160 in the fields & 40 W along the cliff edge)
Sandwich Tern 1 off Birling
Short Eared Owl 1 high over Birling departed SW.
Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 high W.
Skylark 110 (60 W & 50 in field).
Swallow 100 W
House Martin 1
Meadow Pipit 200 (150 W)
Alba Wagtail 40 W
Wheatear 9 (including 1 still in juvenile plumage)
Redwing 1
Song Thrush 3
Blackcap 8
Chiffchaff 23
Goldcrest 3
Raven 2
Chaffinch 50 W
Greenfinch 13 W
Goldfinch 660+ W
Siskin 42 W
Linnet 1,200 (1,100 W & 100 in field).
Lesser Redpoll 6
Reed Bunting 21 W (One of our highest day counts).
Corn Bunting 16 (10 W & 6 in field).

Red Admiral 4
Part of the flock of 160 Greater Black Back Gulls.
